The Authority of Holy Mother Church

Today is the feast day of Pope St Victor.

Elected as Bishop of Rome in the year 189 a.d., Pope St Victor was born in Africa.

He is known as the Pope who helped to settle when Easter would be celebrated. In the Western Church we have always celebrated Easter on a Sunday. The right lung of Holy Mother Church used to celebrate Easter on 14 Nisan, regardless of what day of the week that falls on.

Pope St Victor, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and in communion with the successors to the Apostles, pronounced that Sunday is the right day to celebrate the Resurrection of Our Lord.

To this day, Christians world wide celebrate Our Savior's Resurrection on a Sunday.

My question then becomes: if all Christians are willing to accept Holy Mother Church's authority in this matter, why reject Her guidance in other matters?

Just something to think about - Pope St Victor, pray with us and for us!
